Reproductive Herd Health

Management of reproductive performance is one of the most important aspects of a successful herd health plan. In order to provide the highest quality service to our clients, each doctor is equipped with a portable ultrasound unit. Below is a partial list of the information that can be acquired through a reproductive ultrasound examination.

  • Identification of ovarian structures
  • Pregnancy detection as early as 28 days post-breeding
  • Detection of twin pregnancies
  • Determination of fetal sex at 60-75 days of gestation
  • Diagnosis of reproductive abnormalities and diseases

Use of these services can be customized to best fit your dairy’s needs. As part of your herd health plan, your veterinarian will help you to analyze and interpret your dairy’s records to help you make the the best decisions for your herd.

Male Reproductive Evaluation

Ensuring your bull, ram, or buck is in peak condition for breeding season is vital to the profitability of your farm. • Physical examination for breeding soundness
  • Semen evaluation
  • Testicular ultrasound
  • Sample collection for veneral disease testing

Surgery

Lodi Veterinary Care veterinarians are capable of performing many surgical procedures either on-farm or in our clinic surgical suite.

  • Hernia repair
  • Gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Enucleation (eye removal)
  • Flexural deformities-tenectomy

Ultrasound

In addition to pregnancy diagnosis, ultrasound technology can be used to diagnose acute or chronic cases of pneumonia and evaluate the severity of associated lung damage. This is particularly useful information when making decisions to cull dairy heifer calves.

In some cases, can also be used to diagnose heart defects, peritonitis, and GI disturbances.

Wellness Exams & Treatment

In addition to scheduled herd health appointments, we offer individual wellness exams and treatments for animals as the need arises, including emergency services. To schedule an appointment, call 608-592-7755.

Bovine Plasma Transfusions

Plasma transfusions can help your sick or vulnerable calves recover more quickly and stay healthy. Lodi Veterinary Care houses their own herd of donor cows, so the process is affordable, safe, and effective.

Plasma provides immediate immunity that lasts up to 6 months, helps prevent and treat disease and increases a calf’s likelihood to remain healthy.

Digital Radiology

Digital radiographs (x-rays) can be taken at our clinic, or on-farm, using a mobile unit. These images are available immediately and can be used to diagnose bone fractures, septic arthritis, or presence of urinary stones in smaller animals.
